The Lagos State Government has recruited 992 new education officers to strengthen teaching capacity in public secondary schools and address manpower shortages across the state’s six education districts.
The appointment letters were presented by the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) as part of the government’s efforts to improve the quality of education and bridge staffing gaps, particularly in science and technical subjects.
Speaking at the presentation, TESCOM Chairman, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, described the recruitment as part of a continuous strategy to replace retired and exited teachers while ensuring public schools maintain adequate staffing levels.
She urged the newly recruited teachers to uphold professionalism, embrace innovation, leverage technology in teaching, and create safe, engaging and inclusive learning environments that support students’ academic and personal development.
Peregrino also encouraged the teachers to pursue continuous professional development and approach their responsibilities with integrity, empathy and dedication.
TESCOM officials, including Commission Member representing Ikeja Division, Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye, and Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olawale Ojikutu, warned the new recruits against bullying, sexual harassment and other forms of misconduct, stressing that the Lagos State Government maintains a zero-tolerance policy on unethical behaviour in schools.
Responding on behalf of the newly recruited teachers, Mr. Orire Ajayi Samuel expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for the opportunity, assuring that the new educators would discharge their duties diligently and uphold the values of the teaching profession.
The teachers are expected to complete the necessary documentation before deployment to public secondary schools across the state’s six education districts.
