NUOLGS Calls for Urgent Rehabilitation of Ore–Okitipupa Road

The National Union of Okitipupa Local Government Students (NUOLGS) has appealed to the Ondo State Government, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), and elected representatives from Ondo South to urgently intervene in the rehabilitation of the deteriorating Ore–Okitipupa Road.
In a statement issued on July 20, 2026, and obtained by Ikale Heritage TV on July 21, 2026, the Union described the condition of the strategic federal highway as alarming, stressing that immediate action is needed to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of thousands of road users.

The statement, signed by the National President of NUOLGS, Prince Adeoye Omoleminu, called on the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Hon. Jimi Odimayo, Hon. Donald Ojogo, Hon. Otito Atikase, Hon. Biyi Poroye, and the Managing Director of the NDDC to work together in addressing the worsening state of the road.
According to the Union, the Ore–Okitipupa Road has become a source of serious concern due to its deplorable condition, exposing commuters, students, traders, commercial drivers, and other motorists to avoidable dangers while also disrupting economic activities across Ondo South.
As part of its advocacy, the NUOLGS National President, accompanied by members of the National Executive Council, the National President of Community Presidents in Okitipupa Local Government, and the NAOSS President of OAUSTECH Chapter, conducted an inspection of several failed sections of the road.

During the inspection, the delegation observed extensive deterioration and interacted with motorists and residents who lamented the increasing number of accidents, frequent vehicle breakdowns, rising transportation costs, prolonged travel time, and the economic hardship caused by the road’s poor condition.
While acknowledging previous efforts to improve road infrastructure, NUOLGS maintained that the current state of the Ore–Okitipupa Road requires urgent, coordinated intervention from all relevant authorities. The Union urged the Ondo State Government, members of the National Assembly representing Ondo South, the leadership of the NDDC, and other stakeholders to prioritize the rehabilitation of the road without further delay.
The student body emphasized that its appeal is purely in the interest of public safety and regional development, insisting that the call is not politically motivated but driven by genuine concern for the welfare and economic well-being of the people of Ondo South.
NUOLGS further warned that continued neglect of the road would expose commuters to avoidable accidents, insecurity, loss of lives, and significant economic losses, urging the relevant authorities to treat the rehabilitation of the Ore–Okitipupa Road as a matter of urgent public importance.
